Another adventures of mine begun by the most normal way…I received a call.
By a very simple way I was asked two direct questions: are you free next week? Do you want to come to Lausanne and be a mentor at an entrepreneurs summer camp here in Switzerland? Very happy I answered: of course!
In a very short time I was sent all details: contracts to sign, economic terms (in Switzerland they are very cool!), documents, assurances, tasks and assignments!
My first international contract!...wait, no… the second one! I had already worked in Boston for MyBlend, do you remember? But here everything is very formal, very strict and really very exciting!
For the whole week I was Ginger Camp coach at EPFL, the Lausanne Polytechnic, in Switzerland. I helped the young people of my age (15-19) to start from an idea to create a prototype and a final company pitch.
The first day was dedicated to the problem. Every group analyzed a problem from several point of view to try solve it at the best.
Really interesting ideas came out, We started from there after have chosen a problem, trying to look at the way it is faced by who already deals with it at several levels. The goal was to find a best and more original solution.
The following day we began to talk about solutions to solve the problems chosen by every team the previous day.
Every group looked for the most original solution and then went around to validate it, interviewing the people of the campus.
Very interesting business ideas in all sorts of fields went out.
The guys of every team committed themselves really much and they worked a lot as a team.
A very good goal and a great satisfaction for me, since these guys didn’t meet before and already on the third day collaborated by the best way.
The last day but one was a day of great preparations.
The evening flew by among lectures to prepare for the next day, a bit of tourism through Lausanne and even on the beach to sunbath among swans with the other teachers.
In the morning every team completed its own lean canvas with the part related to the amounts, the revenue and the channels of distribution, after have analyzed together the several aspects.
The afternoon was dedicated to the preparation of pitch for the following day in front of parents and special guests.
They prepared the slides, chose how to tell about their own product to make it the most attractive possible and then they shared the pitch’s parts to make it at the best according to the characteristics of every team member.
Then on the last day every team had its own final pitch presenting the product that the young people thought and prototyped over the week.
All teams committed themselves really a lot and at the and the winning team was Fairball: a ball which is able to recharge the mobile phone, turn on a light and even with internal sensors which allow the ball to give several info and play music.
Then over the week there was also fun, of course: we played several games and we enjoyed in all sorts of activities.
Another experience at top for me ended and I take home really new skills got, experiences, abilities and new nets, stories of people, teachers and young people of my age, coming from all over Europe.
My tip for you: dare, be brave and determined and you’ll arrive where you want…I was able to be a mentor at this summer camp because I knew by chance the female organizer at the ETH and she was struck by me.
Do you remember how I arrive as far as the ETH? Sending thousand emails and stalking everyone until I got an answer!
Try you, too! Your goals can be nearest than what you think!!!
