Stefano Scabbio met Pietro Guindani at the Human Age Institute Talent Talk.
A morning spent in Milan to learn listening to people who have really a lot to tell.
The event is organized by Human Age Institute, the ManPower Group’s foundation whose I am talent Ambassador.
Just arrived I had the chance to meet and be introduced to many different people, among them there was the guest of the morning. You can imagine my astonishment when he told me he remembered me to have listened to me in Venaria at the Italian Digital Day, when I told about the world I would and about the bounds the net creates. He was very struck by me and my intervention, What a honour!
Pietro Guindani is a very interesting person and he gave endless cues to think about.
It’s impossible to list all of them, but I try to put some of them among those ones that most struck me – even if taken out of context and talk they cannot have certainly the same meaning.
I’ve listed them here for two main reason: first, a sort of memo for me and then to make some young people learning want to make go out their own environments and their own comfort areas and have a look around the job world.
To be able to make evolving a company you need to be humble and measure yourself to learn, even by the youngest ones. And it’s not so taken for granted.
Pietro Guindani is convinced that the power of technology provokes an enthusiasm with no limits, because the limit, by now, is only our ability to have ideas, transform them and apply them. We live in a world where barriers fall and the dematerialization make the human being omniscient in some way.
We have to enjoy technology optimistically and communicate it like that.
Mobility give an extraordinary power to the consumer and leads the successes of the company, for example through the reviews. Only the maniacal attention towards the customer can be winning in a world where what was the adjoining market seen as outlet, today becomes the one pushing and acquiring pieces of market.
Today companies have to be open systems. If you want to be satisfying for the customer you have to be rich inside cultural differences. No homologating culture. Otherwise in a flash you are replaced by more open organizations.
The attention to the customer sums in brand which gives the Brand idea.
Focusing the importance of data, of the big data, today data are the elementary unit.
Leadership is an important subject for Pietro Guindani. Today the leader has to be a skills’ leader. The old command and control power don’t exist anymore. Having an idea and transferring it, motivate people to realize it giving its own best. Be measured every day by the shareholders and let the others work is the leaders’ tension. The shareholder often arrives before and he’s more ahead than the others because he’s touched in his wallet.
Then there are side aspects like the fact that technology puts the legislator in a difficulty position because it throws frontiers down.
The leader has to have an attitude of listening towards people bring different skills and create job environments allowing these energies to free themselves.
Look at every phase of the people’s running and embody the tendency to change: flexibility and agility have to be the passwords in any reality.
Today recruiting can be of two ways: it’s not only “I as a company chose the applicant” anymore.
Today people know about we as companies more than we know about ourselves, because they catch endless feedbacks on the social media.
The social intelligence allows the best ones to know everything and so they have major possibilities of choice. The best ones choose. So companies have to create a great basin of recruiting and be interactive. The so many jobs open every year pass from the quantity measurement of the people’s attitudes through testing digital instruments. The interview isn’t the starting point anymore.
The job world transforms and every company have to aim to a non-stop transformation of its own talents, forming them constantly, to have the force to keep on the market. It’s a non-stop re-skilling because we don’t know what the useful skill will be tomorrow.
This aspect of the continuous learning is the great difference in comparison with the world of yesterday. But then you have to allow the one who studies to practise what he has studied and so give the company worth.
The problem of school is a very felt problem by companies. People have tried to analyze the “sins” from the companies’ point of view, identified in the fact that too often they left this aspect apart and they don’t care about it.

Stefano Scabbio and Pietro Guindani have talked about how school is dragged away from the business world and how much it’s necessary a radical change of the education starting from the most little children, Then the problem is above all in the high schools, when the levels of the students’ freedom are still few.
Today in the school, generally, the aren’t messages of opportunities. It will take at least 10-15 years to have a competitive and proper educational system.
My question was: if today you were managers of school, not a school in Milan, but a small normal school of province where 50% of the terms used here this morning are not understood, what would you do?
Certainly, talk, talk, talk. Explain and have faith in one’s own skill of persuasion, There’s no alternative to the contagion. You embrace a cause, you have a vision and you catch the opportunity.
Digitalization is a bright fire under the society. Cannot be obedience, but only agreement thanks to passion. The nets develop underground like the plough working underground.
Maybe sometimes we don’t talk enough enthusiastically about the technologies’ world.
I’d show successful stories, that it’s possible to succeed, I’d drop the gap school-company and I’d select teachers. Someone will remain at the back. It was always like that in the great revolutions. It’s unavoidable. But the best ones and the most motivated ones will go ahead.
People who defend their own role will loose it because they’ll be overcome by change. Change has to be injected little by little, to the leaders, too.
A very drastic answer, but effective, according to me. School needs a turning point!
It’s very beautiful the statement “to attach the plough to a star”. The meaning is to combine reality and dream.
There’s a concept of moralism, generosity and unselfishness that has to be always taken to one’s business, working and life performance.
We have to be able to have an education level overcoming the average at 360° degrees. This and only this will be the winning key for the young people.
